The Photographer Emily Blincoe has taken a photo of various leaves on a black background. The black background allows the leaves to stand out and creates a contrast with them and the surface which allows the reader to easily distinguish the leaves. Additionally the image also transitions from dark green in the top left to brown with mixture of leaves within the centre of the image. The dark green and brown colours bring a feeling of sadness to the image which is further reinforced by the use of a black background. The Birds eye view allows the viewer to gain perspective on a scene and view the whole of the image at once.

Another image captured by Emily Blincoe also uses leaves within the image. However, This image uses various different leaves in comparison to the other picture. The various colours make the image more intriguing for the viewer as it makes it look more lively and positive instead of the dull dark green and brown used in the other image, additionally the different shapes and sizes of the leaves also add more depth to the image due to the fact they include more detail and aren’t flat to the background.
This is an image that was taken by Henry Weston in 1883. The image is an up close image of a lettuce leaf. The leaf contains various different shapes and twists which creates a unique style to the image (the long curves creates a feeling of elegance and calmness for the reader), the raised and lowered sections of the leaf create depth within the image which makes the image seem more true to life or three dimensional. The black and white aspect of the image makes the picture seem more true to life as it allows the reader to see the emotions and feelings of the image.

Another image by Henry Weston is the picture of a shell. The image of the shell is also in black and white which makes the picture seem more sad due to the fact it has no bright or bold colours and makes more of a contrast that brings out the details of the shell. The black and white also allows the viewer to focus more on the subject and emotions within the photograph due to its simple nature.
Project
My first intentions were for me to take pictures of leaves on a single flat surface inspired by the work of Emily Blincoe with a black background to create contrast between the subject and the background However, I eventually started looking at the leaves in more detail with close up shots of single leaves instead of them all laid out in a single line on a flat surface. I chose this direction as it allowed me to capture more depth within the image due to the fact I could now see the curves and lines within the leaves which was also influenced by the artist Henry Weston and his images of close up leaves.

To create my final piece I compiled various images of leaves that I had taken during this project. I used photoshop to individually edit each photo by using the levels tool to allow me control the brightness of the image. Using the tool I could alter the mid tones, contrast and other brightness aspects whilst being displayed on a histogram. Once edited using photoshop I then exported each image using the highest possible settings to ensure the image would be
I have also chose to make some of the images black and white which was achieved using the black and white tool on photoshop. The tool converts the colour image into a black and white image and allows you to edit the contrast and other features of the image. The black and white made aspects of the image stand out more to the viewer due to the increased contrast that’s allows the curves and lines to easily be seen.
